The intellectual before the worker movement in a Clarín tale, Analysis of "A Day-Laborer"

In this article we analyze a story by Clarín entitled Un jornalero (‘A day-laborer’) from the perspective of the history of mentalities. The text is halfway between narrative, article and essay, so that it becomes a vehicle for the dissemination of the author's ideology. Focusing on the so-called "social question", Alas carries out an exercise in self-exploration that leads him to question the role of the intellectual in a society marked by inequalities. Compared to other stories featuring scholars, the author abandons his distancing and satire to proceed to an intimate and painful reflection in which he asks himself to what extent his work contributes, or not, to the construction of a fairer and more egalitarian society. We are thus offered a stark vision of the misunderstanding and suspicion that the figure of the intellectual can arouse, both among activists of the labor movement and among the authorities; even though the protagonist tries to present his work as that of a "day-laborer of the spirit".

Gonzalo Rojas is a poet Orphic lieage, descending to the bottom of the abyssal, where the groping for the dark appears as a sing of a new light. That territory of the indistinct, where the erotic and the poetic merge, is that of all writing, in whose indeterminacy all certteinty disappears and language opens up to the posible. And if the poetic word is characterized by the immediacy of its dazzling appearance, the verb of Gonzlo Rojas bears an analogy with the instant of lightning, whose irruption pf the unexpected can come at any moment.

La poesía filosófica de Ramón Pérez de Ayala: neoplatonismo y humanismo

Pérez de Ayala is a canonical author, but perhaps little read nowadays. His poetry is ignored in spite of the relevance it had in his time. My purpose in this study is to revive his figure by attending to his poetic facet and the connection it has with philosophy. In Ayala's work, the lyrical and the philosophical converge with the intention of educating the reading sensibility. This paper will show some of the author's poems with the aim of unraveling the neoplatonism and humanism they contain, which transcend the merely poetic and encompass a whole symbolic universe. As will be seen, the look of his poetic work to the Greco-Roman culture has not been sufficiently highlighted by critics.

The traces of the Spanish Civil War in Duelo en el Paraíso by Juan Goytisolo

The civil war, as a social phenomenon, profoundly impacted all layers of Spanish society, causing losses of materials goods and human lives, In the face of this disaster, writers committed to social causes, such as Juan Goytisolo, used their writing to create an allegorical critique through adolescent characters, highlighting the socio-ethical function of literature. In this context, this study aims to analyze the literary representation of the civil war through Duelo en el paraíso, exploring how the literary lens articulates a critical reflection on this conflict and its repercussions.
