Abstract

The objectives of this study were to know the frequency and possible causes of the mucometra and hydrometra. The study was carried out in 1,489 bovine females sacrified in the slaughterhouses of León (Spain). The frecuency of mucometra and hydrometra was 2.3% and 0.3%, respectively. With regard to the age groups in the females the mucometra was showed with a higher frequency in those ones ranged from 11 to 15 years while the hydrometra was more frequent in animals with at least 16 years of age. Amongst breeds the Alistano-Sanabresa group was the most affected in both diseases. We think that the possible causes of these diseases were the presence in the ovary of cystic not luteinized follicles or granulosa cell tumours and all those anomalies of development in female genital organs that obstruct the normal delivery of the uterine secretion.
