Resumo

As Artes Marciais Mistas (MMA) converteram-se num dos desportos de combate que mais rapidamente tem crescido no século XXI, atraindo milhões de espectadores de televisão Pay-Per-View, desde que nasceu o Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), em 1993. As concepções populares atribuíram a criação das MMA a Bruce Lee, um actor chinês-americano e artista marcial, que se converteu num dos ícones da década de 1970 e que continua a ser considerado como uma figura revolucionária neste âmbito. Este artigo apresentará, de forma cronológica, exemplos de antigos conceitos das artes marciais que precederam a criação das MMA modernas.
