The National Geographic Institute of Spain did a LIDAR flight of Spain in 2010 within the National Plan of Aerial Orthophotography. Many professionals demanded free access to this data, but by 2014 this was not possible. During this time there were speculations about the possibilities for improvement various cartographic products and processes supported by the use of this information; however after its release it has been seen that this product may not meet expectations. On the other hand there are also some satisfied users with the products obtained from the LIDAR data. Thus, it is necessary to conduct an analysis to answer the following questions: What is this set of LIDAR data for? What can we expect from it? Is it valid for forest, hydrological, agronomic analysis, etc.? Where can it be more useful? Where does it not offer any added value to existing products?

In short, this article seeks to contribute some ideas to guide the user in the use of this set of LIDAR data.
