Los grupos sanguíneos y su utilización en la cría y explotación de los animales domésticos

Abstract

Considerable porgress has been made in the last twenty-five years in research on the blood groups in domestic animals. The systematic employment of these techniques could be of gret use, but unfortunately present knowledge is insufficient. The blood structures of equine and bovine stock are fairly well-know, but with respect to other domestic species many doubts exist that should be resolved by further research. The knowledge of blood groups and the mastiring of the specific techniques involved constituye a powerful aid for the specialist in animal husbandry in resolving the different problems related with the breeding and rearing of domestic animals. In this paper we analyse different questions among which the following are the most important: animal identification; determination of origen and paternity, specially in relation to the practice of artificial insemination; the relations existing between blood factors and groupment in animal husbandry, directer towards a possible haematological diagnosis of breeds; correlation bewen blood groups and disease or between the former and the susceptibility to disease; problems arising from and related with haemolytic icterus; relations beween blood groups and other constitutional factors with a view to improving the standard of selection in animal husbandry.
