Abstract

After a discussion on the nomenclature of the several species of partridges (Alectoris &
Perdix spp.) a revision of the different coccidian species parasitizing birds of the families
Phasianidae and Tetraonidae is given. The authors describe a new species (Eimeria legionensis)
parasite of Alectoris rufa and give a full description of its oocysts, including a statistical
analysis of them. Differences with other species are discussed and finally a key is given.
