Abstract

After a comprehensive revisión about the life cycle, pathogenicrole and importance as a zoonosis, we have carried out a research work on the geographic distribution and on the importance of bovine and ovine dicroceliosis in the province of León (Spain), and we have noticed a great frequency, especially in the northern mountainous part of said province, and the economical repercussion of mixed infestations or infections fasciola-dicrocelio, proved by the discoveries in laughter-houses in l .967 bovine animals and 1.703 ovine animals.

On studying the malacological map of the province of León it ha been shown that among the 32 species of earthly mollusc and 10 species of aquatic molluscs which have been identified in León, only Cionnela lubrica, Helicella itala, Helicella  (X.) neglecta (first world verification) and Theba canrthusiana act as first intermediary hosts.
Formica pratensis, F. rafibarbis and F. sanguínea (first world verification) were found as second intermediary hosts.

A method of maintaining ants whose advantages are remarkable is described.
