Abstract

After a revision of the bibliographic records on the biology of ovine Protostrongylidae some research works were carried out to determine wether the infesting larvae of these nematodes emigrate from the intermediate host snails as some authors have stated.
Under the conditions of this work the origin of infesting larvae of Mullerius capillaris and Protostrongylus rufescens from the intermediate host was shown but their number was very small though the experimental conditions considered by the workers as optimun were exactly reproduced. This means that the migration of larvae starting from snails is not the main epizootiologic factor though the infestation may be possible through said emigrating larvae. We have not been able to find out the circumstances under which the larvae migrate from the intermediate host.
The grear resistence of third larvae freed from the intermediate host against various temperatures, desiccation and irradiation under lamp has been shown.
Cepaea nemoralis, Helicella arigonus and Monacha incarnata must be included into the
list of snails adequate as intermediatc hosts of Mullerios capillaris and Protostrongylus rufescens.
