Abstract

We have stuclied the hemolytic activity of semi-synthetic penieillins corresponding to a -aryl-oxyalkyl and isoxazol-penicillins, on erythrocyles of rabbit «in vilro» in presence of sodium chloride 0,093M. The hemolvtic activity of a -aryl-oxyalkyl-penicillins is practically the same in the three first terms of the series and it increases in the isoxazol-penicillins according to the number of atoms chloro-substituted in the benzyl group of the radical close to 6-amino-penicillanic acicl.
We have also determined the values of the hemolytic coefficients of «i» for the three first terms of the penicillins studied and the influence of two protective solutes, Polyethylenglycol (PEG) and Dimethyl-Sulfoxide (DMSO) on the inhibition of hemolysis.
The data obtained show the protection of the membrane conferred by the way these macromolecules act and / or the interaction between the penicillins and the Polyethylenglycols detected by hemolytic method as possible mechanisms of the inhibitory action of Polyethylenglycols (PEG). Dimethyl-Sulfoxide interferes through a direct action on the erythrocyte by alterating its permeability barriers. The interference grade depends on the concentration of both, Dimethyl-Sulfoxide and Penicillin, and on the time of exposition against this chemical agent.
