Abstract

A study is carried out on the frequency of bovine larval echinococcosis in 5,750 animals slaughtered in Bilbao ( Vizcaya) during the tuberculosis eradication campaign, from 1965 to 1969.

A 11.69% of anirnals were parasited the greatest incidence being found in animals which had been pasturing (Tudancas and Brown Swiss) rather tan in animals which had been kept in stables (Frisian). 

Hydatid cysts were found most frequently in the liver ( 7,39 % ), then in the lung ( 3,87 % ) and afterwards in both of them ( 3,42 % ).
The indemnifications paid for the confiscations reached 244,046.68 pesetas ( $ 3,486.38).
