Abstract

This work deals with the study of 57 strains of staphylococci which were isolated from clinical and subclinical cases of mastitis in cattle with special interest in the production of phosphatase, gelatinase and lysozyme. Egg yolk reaction is also studied. Results obtained are related to the production of coagulase, thermostable DNAse and sensitivity to lysostaphin.
A high percentage of the studied staphylococci produced phosphatase (91,2 %), gelatinase (84,4 %) and lysozyme (93 %). The comparison among the above properties and the production of coagulase, thermonuclease and sensivity to lysostaphin shows that relation is better with lysozyme and phosphatase than with gelatinase.
lt has not been possible to find any relation between egg yolk reaction and production of coagulase, thermonuclease and lysostaphin sensitivity: only 45,6 % of the strains were classified as egg yolk positive.
