Abstract

Kinetics of the elimination of larvae in lung worm infections has been studied by means of faecal analyses in a sheep flock (120 sheep), divided into groups according to the age: I) more than 3 years old; II) 1-3 years old; III) less than I year old. Mean values varied monthly, with a peak in March and a second one latter on in August. The order of frequency the species that caused the infections was: Muellerius capillaris, N. linearis, C. ocreatus, Protostrongylus spp. and D. filaria. While small lungworms increased in number in older sheep, D. filaria was usually absent in them. The reverse was observed in younger animals. Ecological as well as immunologicals reasons are invocated.
