Abstract

Fowl pox was detected in young laying hens in a farm near León during the winter months. The process showed an atypical course with only an small reduction in the number of eggs produced and some scattered deads. The most evident lesions were friable livers and the presence of caseous plugs in the upper trachea.
The process lasted for three months and the ll % of the animals died. Once the animals were vaccinated with an heterologous fowl pox vaccine there were not more dead animals.
We want to emphasize that due to the lack of previous history it was very difficult to suspect of this process and therefore to establish a clinical diagnosis.
