Fortaleza mental en judo: percepciones de los entrenadores

Resumen

El objetivo de la presente investigación fue explorar las percepciones de entrenadores sobre la fortaleza mental característica del judo competitivo, a la luz de la literatura existente sobre estudios en un solo deporte. Nueve entrenadores portugueses de judo de diferentes niveles de logro (no élite, sub-élite y élite) fueron entrevistados. El protocolo utilizado para las entrevistas semiestructuradas se basó en los corolarios de “sociabilidad” y “dicotomía” de la teoría Personal Construct Psychology (Kelly, 1991). Se obtuvieron un total de 162 páginas, transcritas textualmente, de datos brutos. Las propiedades y dimensiones de las categorías conceptuales surgieron de dichos datos. El análisis de contenido fue de tipo inductivo y reveló 22 atributos de fortaleza mental. Solo ocho fueron mencionados por todos los participantes: resiliencia, automotivación, autoconfianza, superación personal, disciplina laboral, regulación de la atención, regulación emocional y competitividad. En referencia a investigaciones previas que exploraron la fortaleza mental en un solo deporte, nuestros resultados en Judo reforzaron las grandes similitudes entre deportes. Sin embargo, se hallaron pequeñas diferencias en relación con tres características de fortaleza mental no identificadas previamente en la literatura: combatividad, autoestima y adaptabilidad. Además, se encontraron otros atributos que son peculiares del Judo, pero no exclusivos, debido a su forma de expresión: conciencia táctica, combatividad y regulación de la autopresentación. La combatividad fue el único atributo que se destacó por ser bastante particular del Judo.
