Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the representations of the non-normative body in two works by Jeanette Winterson (1959), Sexingthe Cherry and TheDaylight Gate. Especially, the grotesque body, which is exemplified in figures such as the monster, the freak or the fat people. The methodology used will consist of the analysis of the main female characters, with the support of secondary texts that theorize both about these works and about issues such as the consideration on the corporal diversity and the concept of beauty on the contemporary age. Special attention will be paid to the possible subversive and political purpose that these images may sustain, as opposed to a standard beauty.
