Profile of the woman music performer: training, adherence, frequency and professionalism

Women have always participated actively in music, despite the existence of strong gender inequalities. The present study, of quantitative methodology and ex post facto design, seeks to know their current situation. No significant differences were found between women and men in relation to their musical training and adherence to practice; however, gender stereotypes persist in terms of musical styles and instruments, as well as differences in dedication during the central stage of professional life. It is necessary to make visible the past and present participation of women in traditionally considered masculine musical tasks and to develop active social policies in pursuit of full gender equality in musical activity.
